Established in December 2004, Salt Surf Life Saving Club is one of the youngest surf clubs in Australia – but we’ve quickly carved out a proud place in the Surf Life Saving family. As part of the North Coast Branch of Surf Life Saving NSW, we are connected to a legacy of mateship, vigilance, and community service that stretch es back over a century.
From the golden sands of Salt Village through to Casuarina, our mission is simple: to make this stretch of beach one of the safest and most welcoming on the Tweed Coast. Every weekend and public holiday from September to April, our volunteer lifesavers don the red and yellow, putting community first to protect residents and the thousands of visitors who come to swim, surf, and soak up our coastline. Our patrol teams, surf educators and junior trainers are dedicated to working with all sections of the community for a common goal.
But Salt SLSC is more than just patrols and rescues. We’re a com munity hub - a place where kids grow up learning water safety, teenagers find leadership opportunities, adults rediscover fitness and friendship, and families create lifelong memories. We are powered by passion, built on service, and proud to keep watch over our patch of paradise.
Salt SLSC is considered a Family Club. We have a strong and vibrant presence that prides itself on building the fabric of the local community. Being a new club in a new area, we attract local families with a common theme of getting to know new people. Many of our members are getting involved in the surf movement for the first time in their lives, and we cater for all abilities and ages.
The Salt nipper program, which was introduced in 2006, has developed into a one of the most progressive programs on the coast. The Saturday afternoon timeslot is very popular with kids and parents, giving families back their Sundays. The junior lifesavers training environment sources coaching expertise from all over Australia as more people make Casuarina and Kingscliff their home. Our nipper numbers have rapidly expanded as word spreads about the friendly, supportive, family-focussed and low-pressure environment provided at Salt SLSC. We cater for all abilities and strive to build confidence and knowledge. The Saturday afternoon timeslot is extrememly popular.
In the upcoming 2025/26 season, we will officially enter our 20th year of lifesaving - a milestone that celebrates two decades of community spirit, courage, and commitment. From our humble beginnings with a handful of locals and a dream, Salt SLSC has grown into a thriving club that punches well above its weight. As we look to the season ahead, we honour the hundreds of members, past and present, who have given their time, skill and heart to protect others, and we look forward to the next 20 years of keeping our beaches, and our community, safe, strong, and proudly salty.
